Safety Week was created to prepare swimmers for the accidents that we all hope to never experience, especially when no adult is present. All students come to their lesson with their clothes on and practice jumping into the water and getting out of the pool, fully clothed. It is most effective if they wear heavy winter clothes, jackets, boots, etc. By practicing this, it will lessen the degree of panic and increasing their ability to save themselves. Safety rules and how to respond when a child sees another person drowning are also reviewed. Depending on their age and ability, they may also practice other skills in the water while clothed.
